MPI Director of Safety Pharmacology to be a Featured Speaker at Key Safety Pharmacology Meeting, March 2930, 2004

MPI Research is proud to announce that Ted Baird, Ph.D. has been invited to speak at the prestigious safety pharmacology meeting, Innovative Approaches to Safety Pharmacology. This meeting is hosted by Pharmaceutical Education Associates, and will be held in Philadelphia, PA, March 29-30, 2004, at the Park Hyatt Hotel. Dr. Baird will speak in the company of other safety pharmacology industry leaders from Merck, Eli Lilly, Astra Zeneca, Allergan, and others.

Speakers have been requested to discuss their industry leading, contemporary approaches concerning the ICH requirements for evaluations of potential cardiac, pulmonary and central nervous system effects of new drug entities. As Director of Safety Pharmacology, Dr. Baird leads one of the contract research industry’s most experienced and long-lived GLP-compliant safety pharmacology programs, and will speak to several important topics relating to pharmaceutical industry efforts to bring new drugs to the clinic, and ultimately to market. Dr. Baird’s points of discussion will include: how regulatory guidance and other factors influence study design for safety pharmacology evaluations, how to select key study endpoints, the utility of novel methods in evaluation of pharmacology parameters, and the value (and potential risks) of developing standardized, programmatic approaches for safety pharmacology assessments.

James Laveglia, Ph.D., Executive Vice President and Director of Research for MPI Research commented, “at MPI Research we have always been extremely proud of our safety pharmacology program. Dr. Baird has done an exemplary job in continuing to grow and refine our program and capabilities. We are pleased to have Dr. Baird share his expertise with an audience of this caliber and encourage anyone interested in the area of safety pharmacology to attend this important meeting.”
