Please join MPI Research in recognizing June 2009 as marking the 30-year anniversary for GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) regulations within the preclinical research industry. Establishing in the 1970s by the US FDA in the Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR Part 58), GLP Regulations were created to assure the quality, integrity, and reproducibility of the research data used to support preclinical laboratory studies. They became fully effective on June 20, 1979.

“It’s hard to believe that GLPs have been in effect for 30 years,” says MPI Research President and COO, William Harrison. “The GLPs were not readily accepted by the scientific community initially, but I believe they have withstood the test of time and have proven their value in preclinical research.” Mr. Harrison, a past president of the SQA (Society of Quality Assurance), a professional organization devoted to information and knowledge exchange in research and regulatory quality assurance, goes on to state, “The GLPs spurred the growth of a whole new profession, the Quality Assurance Profession. It is amazing what less than 15 pages of good federal regulations can achieve.”
